Graeme McLean // Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland
"What we are currently seeing is the growing realisation that current trends and future developments can only be successfully handled together. That there needs to be collaboration at all levels. We need additional partners in our community, like the forestry commission, government organizations, bike businesses, and many more."
Graeme explains Scotland's MTB strategy in this panel discussion. His organization has an ambitious goal to establish Scotland as the leading MTB nation in Europe. With a mission to increase annual mountain bike rides to 2 million by 2025, have a world champion or overall winner in every discipline, and increase the economic activity of biking in Scotland by nearly 50%.
- Without a strategy, we can never reach our goals – but there aren't any one size fits all solutions. Initial conditions are always different and possibilities and objectives vary depending on the destination.
- How do different regions address this issue? What approaches do they take?
- Which factors need to be considered and what are the most important lessons learned in this process? And how long does such a process take to show results?
- This panel compares different plans and approaches and provides insights into successful strategy implementation.
